BARCELONA (Reuters) - French driver Jean-Eric Vergne was handed a 10-place grid penalty and his Toro Rosso Formula One team fined 30,000 euros ($41,300) on Friday after the right rear wheel came off his car during Spanish Grand Prix practice. Stewards said in a statement that the turn one incident, during the afternoon session at the Circuit de Catalunya, was considered "a significant breach of the safety requirements". They also asked the governing FIA safety delegate to ensure the Toro Rosso cars complied with the technical regulations before Saturday's third session. Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo was handed a similar 10-place penalty at last month's Bahrain Grand Prix after his car shed a front left wheel following a pitstop during the March race in Malaysia. Toro Rosso are seventh in the constructors' standings with eight points from five races. Vergne, whose team mate is Russian rookie Daniil Kvyat, has scored half of the points. Grosjean, 24, made his F1 race debut with Renault in 2009 after Nelson Piquet was dropped, but he was not retained for last year. His signing comes in the wake of strong rumours the Proton-linked Malaysian Fairuz Fauzy had been signed as the team's reserve driver.
"2011 will be my comeback year with a third driver spot at Lotus Renault and a whole season in GP2 and GP2 Asia with the DAMS team," Grosjean said. "To be third pilot ... allows me to gain a huge amount of experience, to be in the paddock, to see people, and to understand what I was lacking in my first Formula One experience. Now my idea is to be a race driver in 2012."

OK, I thought I could get the ball rolling on a shorter infobox for drivers. I've taken the stats from Schumacher's article to come up with this. It's just a rough idea and as you can see, my table editing skills aren't brilliant. Certainly, it would be good if we could get free images of driver's helmets to pretty the infoboxes up. Please feel free to improve it as you wish. SamH 10:23, 21 Oct 2004 (UTC)
The former driver template is good for drivers like Ayrton Senna who won lots of races, but its not much use to drivers who didn't have much success during their career. I have just added it to an article i'm working on, Esteban Tuero, and having a list of 0's doesn't look very good. The 'First win', 'Last win' also looks stupid there as he never won any races.
As I was looking up some drivers, I came across the page for Mike MacDowel, which apparently has been nominated for deletion. Current claims are that this driver was non-notable. My question, that I pose to the group, is what is our justification for having pages for drivers that have raced in only one race, and would someone quick state that justification on the page's vote for deletion discussion page before it does in fact become deleted. slowpokeiv 14:16, 15 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Jenson Button predicted "something very special" at Le Mans from him and illustrious team-mates Jimmie Johnson and Mike Rockenfeller, who have been unveiled as the drivers for a NASCAR Chevrolet Camaro entry at this year's 24-hour race
The confusion on the radio we heard from Pete Bonnington, the Mercedes race engineer, to Hamilton was undoubtedly an effect of trying to juggle two cars in the pits and making a very quick decision on what to do. When the safety car was called, both Mercedes drivers were very close to the pit entry and the team had to make a call on whether to bring one or both cars in, plus choose what tyres to put them on as the rain had intensified at that point. 2ff7e9595c
